(1729-1824), came to America from Ireland in 1740. His influence during the Revolution was such that he was called "the Sam Adams of Philadelphia, the life of the cause of liberty." He was Secretary of the Continental Congress during its entire history, from 1774 to 1789. He made careful records of the proceedings and took valuable notes.
