A mitosporic Trichocomaceae fungal genus that develops fruiting organs resembling a broom. When identified, teleomorphs include Eupenicillium and Talaromyces. Several species (but especially PENICILLIUM CHRYSOGENUM) are sources of the antibiotic penicillin.
