A program on a hard disk, floppy diskor other media, which is loaded when the computer is turned onor rebooted and which controls the next phase of loading theactual operating system. The loading and execution of theboot block is usually controlled by firmware in ROM orPROM. It may be at some fixed location possibly or may bepointed to by the master boot record.
