A small singing bird of the family Fringillidae, common in the United States, the Fringilla or Chrysometris tristis. The summer dress of the male is of a lemon yellow, with the wings, tail, and fore part of the head black. The female and male, during winter, are of a brown olive color. When caged the song of this bird greatly resembles that of the canary. The name is also given to the yellow poll warbler ( Dendroica oestiva).
