(1799-1859), was Speaker of the Indiana Legislature in 1832 and a Democratic U. S. Congressman from 1835 to 1837, 1839 to 1841 and from 1843 to 1847. He was Speaker of the House from 1845 to 1847, and U. S. Commissioner to China from 1848 to 1850.
