Anatomists sometimes give the name, Calotte aponevrotique, to the aponeurosis of the occipito-frontalis muscle, which covers it externally; and that of Calotte du crane to the scull-cap. Calotte is also applied to an adhesive plaster, with which the head of a person labouring under tinea capitis is sometimes covered, after the hair has been shaved off. This plaster is pulled suddenly and violently off, in order to remove the bulbs of the hair. It means, also, a sort of coif made of boiled leather, worn by those who have undergone the operation of trepanning, &c.
